IBAN Service
IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. The IBAN system was designed to identify your bank account in the systems of all financial institutions worldwide. This number is essential in order to transfer money in and out of your account. The International Bank Account Number consists of a country code, the code of your bank, and your bank account number. You get an IBAN when you set up an account with any bank of your choice. However, we do advise you to check out their fees before you decide on a bank; fees vary between banks. What is required to get an IBAN?
In order to open an account and get an IBAN, a few things are required:
- Burger Service Number;
- Valid passport or ID card;
- Proof of address in the Netherlands;
- Residence permit.

What does an IBAN look like? At the top of the page we have made a picture of a fake bank card. Look on the left side right below betaalrekening—that’s the IBAN: NL01 PAYIT 0087 3425 09.
This is a Dutch bank card, or betaalpas. Before you open a bank account and get a pass like this, we advise you to ask what the charges will be. Also, ask if they can provide you with everything in English, and whether they offer Internet banking in English.
